The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mail Specialist/Truck Driver to join our Senate Post Office team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a motorized truck to pick up and deliver mail and packages from the mail screening facility to the Senate mailroom and other service locations, including transporting staff to pulmonary training appointments. Your duties will also include sorting, screening, opening, and testing all incoming mail and packages for delivery to Senate offices; detecting hazardous or potentially hazardous items; responding properly to suspicious item detection; and maintaining accurate daily records of all materials protocols and reviewed daily by Senate Post Office management for quality and quantity of work performed and adherence to policies and procedures.
The Mail Specialist/Truck Driver position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. of shared weight, as well as excessive climbing, bending, kneeling, and entering and exiting a vehicle. The position involves driving a large, loaded truck or vehicle through congested traffic, particularly around Capitol Hill. This position may require sitting and standing for extended periods in a controlled negative air environment while donned in full-body Level 2 personal protective equipment. Furthermore, this work exposes the employee to potential threats within mail and package processing.
