GENERAL INFORMATION
This position is located in the D.C. Department of Corrections, Central Detention Facility (CDF). The DC Department of Corrections (DOC) provides public safety by ensuring secure, and humane confinement of pretrial detainees and sentenced misdemeanant prisoners. The purpose of the position is to educate incarcerated men as part of an adult basic education program designed to prepare individuals to successfully take and pass the General Education Development (GED) Examination.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Education Program Administrator in preparation of lesson plans, curriculum development and selection of texts, graphic and visual aids and instructional material. Assists with interviews, evaluation and placement of inmates entering the Department of Correction's GED Program and determines the best practices to utilize and collect education background/additional subject materials and assesses their education needs and assists with identifying the best possible path to GED success.
Administers and reads examination, including Test of Adults Basic Education (TABE) Graduarion Record Examinations (GRE) and related test develops and adapts to new or revised training to testing materials for formal course use; these materials may be reviewed by the teacher's supervisor for technical accuracy, consistency with course objectives, educational effectiveness, and program policy.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree for an accredited to pre-accredited institution that included or was supplemented by supervised student teaching and at least one course in each of the following areas: general psychology, Human Development, history and philosophy of education and teaching methods at the learning level of the position to be filled, i.e. elementary or secondary learning level. For secondary school teaching positions, applicants must also have had at least 24 hours (or equivalent) of course work in each of the principal fields or instruction.

Combination of education and experience; OR
Teachers' certification or licensure in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
In addition specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a correctional institution/jail setting learning-station, with and around inmates. Normal safety precautions are required.
