The Asahi Shimbun is Japan’s leading national daily newspaper. Based in Tokyo, it has a circulation of 4.5 million, and hundreds of thousands subscribers to its digital news site. Its main office in North America is located in Washington D.C. There are bureaus in New York and San Francisco.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferable). Background in foreign affairs and domestic politics is highly desirable. Interest in East Asia is preferred. Work experience with media companies preferred.
Duties include assisting our Washington-based correspondents with articles by conducting thorough background research, attending The White House, Department of Defense and/or other relevant press briefings, gathering news and views, arranging interviews, and closely following developments in the area of domestic politics, defense and foreign affairs.
Some administrative support is also required. This is a reporting position with limited article-writing or byline opportunities. Position will be available immediately.
Working from our Washington office is required. Limited hybrid options are available.
Compensation includes overtime pay, excellent medical/dental benefits, and 401(k).
