The mission of the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is to protect public interest by regulating the vehicle-for-hire industry to allow the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia to have safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options.
This position is physically located at the DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC Public Charter Schools but centrally managed by the Department of For Hire Vehicles (DFHV). This program is created to support the District's Safe Passage initiative which aims to address concerns around student safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Transportation Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to school-based staff, to assist with the normal day-to-day operations. Assists with the oversight of the students during morning arrival, lunch time, recess and dismissal activities. Ensures that students are safely secured in their seats which includes making sure seatbelts are used properly as well as booster seats when needed. Works with school-based staff to build a positive and nurturing environment for the students and amongst the students.
The incumbent works in assistance with the drivers to ensure all students are safely transported to and from their designated locations. Maintains student’s sensitive data to ensure all student demographic information is updated and current. Communicates effectively and clearly with driver, Supervisor, and school personnel about student’s needs. Participates in educational trainings and engages in ongoing training sessions as directed. Performs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid as needed.
Qualifications and Education
Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, (1) specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
License and Certifications
Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Work Environment
The employee is regularly exposed to moving vehicles; walking or assisting the students exposed the employee to outside weather conditions—heat, cold, relative to the season of the year. Work is mostly outdoors.
