JOB SUMMARY:
The Forklift Operator/Yard Jockey is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers and trucks within the company’s yard and between loading docks. This role ensures that trailers are in the correct position for loading and unloading, supports warehouse operations, and maintains a clean, organized yard environment. Yard Jockey may load and unload beverage delivery trucks, as well as operate forklifts and electric pallet jacks. Assist in repairing damaged goods inventory, and participate in clean-up duties.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate yard truck to move empty and loaded 40’-48’ trailers to and from docks, staging areas, and storage locations.
- Coordinate trailer placement with warehouse team to ensure efficient loading/unloading schedules.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard truck and report any maintenance needs.
- Verify trailer numbers and placement according to schedules and shipping/receiving documents.
- Assist with securing trailers, including chocking wheels and setting trailer stands.
- Maintain a safe and organized yard, ensuring clear lanes and proper trailer spacing.
- Operates forklift and electric pallet jack and must maintain OSHA Forklift Certification.
- Follows OSHA guidelines, to prevent injury to self, others, and damage of product while operating machinery.
- Unloads delivery trucks containing finished goods from vendors.
- Follows company policies and procedures in accordance with established regulations (i.e.: Good Manufacturing Practices, OSHA, FDA, PepsiCo and AIB Standards, FSSC 22000, etc.)
- Assist cleaning warehouse at the end of the shift.
- Additional duties may be assigned when workload is light.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- High school education and/or GED equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license: CDL Class A preferred but not required.
- Previous yard jockey or truck driving experience preferred.
- Ability to operate yard trucks, manual and automatic transmissions, and understand trailer docking procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks, including climbing in/out of trucks and moving equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate motorized equipment.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Pass the background check.
- Able to stand prolonged periods of time.
- Able to frequently lift up to 35 pounds with or without assistance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.43 - $18.32 per hour
