Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Annapolis family law firm. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to the managing partner of the firm, who has a high volume family law litigation practice. This role requires strong organizational skills, especially with tracking deadlines, effective communication, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and the desire to work in a high paced work environment. The position has the opportunity to evolve into a paralegal position.
Salary based upon experience.
Duties
- Provide executive administrative support to one attorney, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and organizing files.
- Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, including motions, complaints, answers and financial statements.
- Draft correspondence to include letters and emails to clients, opposing counsel,and court personnel.
- E-filing documents on the MDEC system.
- Maintain organized case files using Microsoft Word, PDF (Foxit), Excel, and Clio.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, witnesses, mediators, experts, and courthouse staff regarding cases.
- Collaborate with the legal team to prepare for hearings, trials, and meetings by organizing materials and summarizing case details.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Experience providing executive administrative support in a professional setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with family law is a plus but not required; willingness to learn is essential.
- Experience using MDEC and Clio is a plus but not required.
- Proficient in legal administrative tasks, including document management and deadlines tracking and organization.
- Excellent proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality documentation.
- Strong clerical skills with proficiency in standard office software applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
